In the common tongue, we call them Boartusks. To the Veshvari, they are the Szélesagyar. Regardless of the name, encountering one in the wild is a humbling reminder of the scale and ruggedness of Aestraea’s fauna.
Physical Profile
The Boartusk is a massive creature, standing approximately one and three-quarters meters at the shoulder. Its hide is exceptionally dense and coarse, covered in layered bristles of a lighter color. These bristles serve as a rugged defense against the elements and the rocky terrain they call home.
Adaptation & Behavior: “Rock-Snuffling”
The most striking feature of the Boartusk is its broad head and reinforced snout. As noted by the Veshvari, this snout is specifically designed for “rock-snuffling”—the act of rooting through rocky soil to find sustenance.
Its namesake tusks protrude from the mouth and curve forward. Unlike the tusks of predatory beasts used for goring, the Boartusk’s ivory serves a more architectural purpose: providing leverage for moving heavy stones and digging deep into the stubborn soil of the highlands.
Survival & Utility
To the people of the Hearth, the Boartusk is more than a wild beast; it is a vital resource. As the Veshvari hunter Miro simply puts it: “Is good for food.” Even a young specimen provides significant sustenance for a traveling party or a village, making it a prized—though dangerous—quarry for any provisioner.
