It is spoken in the book by Eldwin Thorne, one of the most quietly extraordinary characters I have ever had the privilege of writing. He says it as a fact, the way someone says the sun rises east, with the bone-deep certainty of someone who has witnessed enough cycles to know it to be true. Not a comfort, exactly. More of a structural truth about how the world works.
I have held onto that line for a long time. I held onto it on the days this book felt impossible. I hold onto it now, as I prepare to bring it into the world through a Kickstarter campaign launching June 1, 2026.
There is always something that survives. There is always a place to begin again.
